Pete's Log: Weekend Warrior

Entry #1451, (Life in General)
(posted when I was 28 years old.)

Weekend Code Warrior, that is.

I finally managed to really put some time into the Rijks Gallery web page again. Most of the work was on behind-the-scenes administrative pages that allow my mom to update content herself, but some of the work is reflected in the visible artists pages.

By the way, I find magic_quotes_gpc to be somewhat annoying.

I was surprised a while back when a girl from Boston did not recognize my accent as American. But then at a get-together last weekend, two other people (one Canadian, one American) did not think my accent was American either. When I first moved to the US, people heard some sort of European accent when I spoke English. The last time that happened, however, was my sophomore year of college. So I don't know if my accent is returning, or if it's a question of context: perhaps people in the states hear an American accent from me because that's what they're expecting. In Germany, there's little expectation for what sort of accent my English has, so maybe that's why people don't recognize it.

But when I was in Saudi Arabia, one of the guys I worked with there recognized my accent as American. So who knows...

Today I bought myself a couple presents: a nice backpack and a pair of cleats. Hopefully breaking them in during Ultimate tomorrow will not destroy my feet too badly.
