Pete's Log: Shamrock Shuffle

Entry #1781, (Sports and Athletics)
(posted when I was 36 years old.)

Jamie and I woke up bright and early this morning to head downtown for the 2015 Shamrock Shuffle 8k. It was the first for either of us. Metra was kind enough to add extra trains, so we were able to get downtown by train. The first train of their usual Sunday schedule would not have gotten us downtown on time.

We were running as part of team DMC, so we wore our DMC team shirts and met the rest of the team at the bean for a team photo. Since Jamie and I were in wave two, we then had some time to kill, so we wandered around some before heading to gear check and then our starting corral.

Our wave started at 9:15, and I got swept away in everything, so we got a faster start than we were planning on, but then we just went with it, so we finished at 10, running a 9:15 minutes per mile pace. So that was fun. It got pretty windy at times, but otherwise it was a great race. I think the biggest race I've ever participated in (although the Firmenlauf in Munich was comparable in scale) and it was incredibly well organized. I would definitely run it again.
