Pete's Log: Kicking off the long weekend

Entry #1956, (Life in General, Parenthood)
(posted when I was 42 years old.)

Jamie discovered that Riverside was having a 4th of July concert this evening, so once JB got home, we hopped on our bikes and headed over. JB was real excited for a bike ride.

The event was real happening. We got there just in time for the national anthem, followed by a cover band playing hits of the past. JB took it all in stride. Lots of kids running around, lots of noise, lots of people. She jammed to the band and ran around some herself.

Almost nobody was wearing masks. It felt normal. BuckleDown brewed a special limited release for the occasion, a pilsner. It was good. Lines for food were real long, so we let JB have some of the snacks we packed but opted to wait for home for dinner.

The main bridge over the Salt Creek by the Brookfield village hall is currently gone while they replace it, but the pedestrian bridge that parallels it is still there, so we used that bridge on our way there and back. JB was excited to see all the construction equipment, including a couple excavators.

Festivities continue tomorrow.
