IoT Summit Chicago

Entry #1814, Wed, October 18, 2017, 21:49 CDT (Coding, Hacking, & CS stuff)
(posted when I was 39 years old.)

Today I attended day one of the 2017 IoT Summit Chicago. The event was much better than I anticipated based on past similar events I've been to.

The most interesting sessions to me were the sessions about Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN), fog computing, and voice as the new user interface. In particular I was struck by the idea that with voice you can have authentication (based on voice biometrics) be ongoing instead of the current model of only having authentication at the beginning of a traditional (e.g. clicking/typing) UI session.

There was also a session where two leading democratic candidates for Illinois governor got to talk about their take on technology. Chris Kennedy and JB Pritzker both made some interesting points.

Stay tuned for day two of the summit tomorrow.
