Pete's Log: Stage 1 complete: Pittsburgh

Entry #1392, (Life in General)
(posted when I was 28 years old.)

So I am unemployed and homeless. What a glorious feeling. I managed to fit most of my possessions into my car. Which means I did a lot of purging. I had planned to leave MD by noon yesterday, but severely underestimated the amount of packing left to do. If Rod hadn't stopped by and helped, I doubt I would've made it out at all. But I finally left at 9:30. Which means I got to Pittsburgh at 1:30 am.

I received a good omen after getting on the road. I was physically and emotionally exhausted and all-around lacking in the sort of enthusiasm a road trip demands. Especially a farewell tour road trip. So when I started losing the WAMU (DC's NPR station) signal, I hooked up my iPod and decided to listen to some Schlaflos in München, which is my favorite podcast. I only had about 5 episodes, because I hadn't updated my ipod much lately.

So a few weeks ago, I'd written Annik, the host of SiM, an email detailing my road trip plans. Well, in the first episode of SiM that played, she discussed my plans! I'd completely forgotten that I'd emailed her. So it was somewhat surreal and very exciting to hear my road trip discussed on SiM just as said road trip was getting underway.

So that made me feel better, and I made it to Pittsburgh feeling good about life. Thanks Annik for the good omen. Go listen to #378 of SiM. If you don't understand German, you should at least be able to make out "Pete," "Washington," and "Colorado."

And thanks again to Rod for all his help!
