Pete's Log: I stayed up for that?

Entry #1412, (Sports and Athletics)
(posted when I was 28 years old.)

I went to The Arc last night to watch the ND-USC game. ND lost 44-24.

The Arc is a nice little expat bar in Schwabing. They told us they'd stay open if there was enough of a crowd to make it worth their while. I didn't expect that to happen. The game started at 2 am Central European Time. Sara and I got there right about then, just a few minutes before kickoff. We found four USC fans and three ND fans. Since Sara was in my ND hat, we'll technically count her as a fan, pushing the fan balance to 5-4 in favor of ND. But two of the other ND fans left at halftime.

I talked to both the USC fans and the one ND fan who didn't leave. It's hard not to get along with anyone with enough love for college football to stay awake until 6 am for a game. So I really enjoyed myself, despite the lopsided loss. It was the first game I actually managed to see on TV this year, so I was glad for that. I hadn't expected Sara to come along, but she was a trooper and stayed awake most of the time. I also tipped the bartender generously (by German standards) for staying awake for us. It was much appreciated.

By the time the game was over, the subway was running again, so getting home was easy. Now I'm "helping" Sara cook Thanksgiving food.
