Pete's Log: geography fun

Entry #1461, (Random Crap)
(posted when I was 28 years old.)

Set off, I think, by quiz night, I've been on a bit of a geography kick lately. There are some fun games online to test and practice your geography skill.

The most recent one I've played with is 192 UN Member States in 10 minutes. I came across it via StumbleUpon and was slightly confused when confronted with a webpage that just started counting down from 10:00. I quickly read the instructions and had at it. I was able to name about 120 countries on my first attempt. Now I average about 180, with a personal best of 189. I don't think I'd have done as well on my first attempt if I hadn't already been brushing up on my geography.

Sheppard Software has some fun geography quizzes. Most recently, I've been working on mastering African Geography, since I was appalled to realize just how poorly I knew that continent.

Once I feel good about countries, the next thing to do may be to learn capitals. Or rivers. Or other features. Depends on what sort of fun games I can find online.

Will it help me at a pub quiz? We'll have to wait and see...
