Pete's Log: Komm hol das Lasso raus, wir spielen Cowboy und Indianer...

Entry #1530, Mon, October 08, 2007, 10:27 CEST (Life in General)
(posted when I was 29 years old.)

Yesterday was fun. First, I got this email from a complete stranger:

I'm having a lot of fun playing with KLUE4, thank you. Here's my suggestion for a syntax template, I've gotten some good results!

<name> <sayverb> "<animal>, don't you dare <verb> my <bodypart>!"

It's been almost seven years since I implemented KLUE4. In that time, I'd only gotten feedback from people I know. At least as far as I can remember. Out of curiosity, I checked the apache logs, and it seems this person found klue4 through a google query for "customizable random sentence generator." KLUE4 is the fifth result for that query. Fun fun fun.

So, then I head to the Sunday afternoon Ultimate game, planning to have a beer or two afterwards and then head home again. Nope. At the beer garden, I was talked into coming out to the Wiesn for the last day of Oktoberfest. I didn't want to trek all the way back home, though, so Don let me drop my stuff at his place, and lent me some clean clothes.

We were in the tent just past 6:30. A bunch of Ultimate people already had a table, and we just crowded around it. There were probably 20 of us sharing a table for 10. An excellent evening it was, with the band getting nostalgic at the end, so long for 2007, and so on. I miss it already.

To summarize:

  • September 22 (opening day): Fischer Vroni with Toytown people
  • September 23: Schottenhamel with Ultimate people
  • September 24: Schützen-Festzelt with Dave and friends
  • September 30: Löwenbräu tent with Dave and friends
  • October 2: Ochsenbraterei with a partner company
  • October 4: Hofbräu tent with work
  • October 7 (closing day): Bräurosl with Ultimate people

So long Oktoberfest, see you again in 2008! I'm pretty impressed that in seven trips, I hit up seven different tents. My favorites would have to be Schottenhamel and Bräurosl. Least favorite was probably Hofbräu. We still had a good time there, but the music wasn't great and the service wasn't either...

I also realized that Don is moving back to the US in two weeks. He was only here on a six-month gig, but I was surprised to learn the six months are nearly over. That's the problem with the expat community. Lots of turnover. They're still a fun crowd, though.

Jimmy Carter insinuated "guinea pig, don't you dare boogie my spleen!"
