Pete's Log: geohashing for MJ

Entry #1641, (Life in General)
(posted when I was 30 years old.)

Dan suggested aprés work drinks on Friday, so we met up at Muffathalle and had ourselves some Helles. Dan was unaware that Michael Jackson had died, so I had to be the one to break the news to him. We decided a tribute was in order.

Conveniently, I had printed out the map to that day's geohash point, so I was able to suggest we go drink a beer in MJ's honor at 47.9886395N, 11.7552430E. So off we went.

After picking up beers, we took the S6 from Isartor to Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. This was actually one stop short of where we needed to be, but this particular S6 didn't go any further. So we wandered around Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn for 20 minutes while we waited for the next S6. This one took us to Dürrnhaar.

From there we had to walk a couple kilometers into the forest. My phone's GPS had a bit of trouble when surrounded by trees, but we got within a few meters of the target coordinates. There we popped open our Augies, poured a sip on the ground for MJ, and drank in his honor.

We then returned to Dürrnhaar. We had 50 minutes until the next S6 back into München, so we grabbed a beer at Rulands Inn, the only pub we found in Dürrnhaar. We then made our way back home. An absurd goodbye to an absurd pop star.

Saturday I helper Florian move. Afterwards we went to the new BK Whopper Bar that's just a couple blocks from my place. It's the first Whopper Bar in Europe. My verdict: it's like Burger King but slower and the fries are cold.
