Pete's Log: First First Friday Slow Roll

Entry #1864, (Life in General)
(posted when I was 42 years old.)

I've known about Cycle Brookfield basically since we moved to Brookfield three and a half years ago, but it's taken until this year to finally make it to some of their events.

Earlier this summer we participated in their annual Bike Brookfield event, which was "virtualized" this year because of the pandemic. What that meant is instead of being a one-day event it became a one-week event, and instead of riding as a big group, there were signs all over town with QR codes and you did it at your own leisure. It was really nicely done, considering the circumstances.

Tonight Jamie, JB and I bundled up and participated in our first "First Friday Slow Roll," a monthly event where the group just bikes around town at a slow pace. It was real nice. Everyone wore masks, everyone was super friendly, and the guys organizing it have obviously been doing it a while. They ran really good interference anytime the group had to cross a busy road and kept us together as a group and out of harm's way. Felt nice and safe. I'm glad our town has this group and I look forward to getting more involved.

JB really enjoyed the ride, she was chatting a bunch and we got several comments about how happy she looked. It's real fun to be getting her excited about biking at a young age.
