Pete's Log: Another involuntary disruption goes well

Entry #2043, (Home Automation)
(posted when I was 43 years old.)

We had a brief power outage last night. One feature of the Philips Hue bulbs that usually is nice is that they turn on when powered up, meaning we can use them as normal light bulbs via the light switches when need be. But it also means after a power outage every Hue light in the house turns on.

And to my dismay, Home Assistant was down so we couldn't turn the lights back off. As it turned out, I only have four of the five pis on backup power (the two in the garage and the two in the laundry room). The pi on my desk is not on a UPS. Nothing on my desk is, and I keep thinking of getting a UPS for the desk so Esgerbeastie doesn't have to go through abrupt power downs.

Anyway, guess which of the five pis the Home Assistant pod was running on when the power went out?

I didn't have to do anything, by the time I was downstairs to investigate, the HA pod was already running again on a different node and the pi on my desk had already come back up and rejoined the cluster.

Satisfied, I turned the lights off and went to bed.
