Pete's Log: Ripping Records

Entry #2435, (Music)
(posted when I was 45 years old.)

I feel like there was a brief period of time when it seemed every (vinyl) record I purchased came with a download code for the mp3 version of the album. But lately that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

So I've intended for a while now to hook Jamie's record player up to my computer, since the record player has USB output. Today I finally did so and using audacity managed to capture two albums to mp3.

It's slow going since (1) life offers lots of distractions these days and (2) audio is captured at actual speed, unlike when ripping CDs. I'm pleased with the audio quality, though.

My main snag so far was that the first album I captured was a 45 RPM album and I was about five minutes into capturing the second album when I remembered it was a 33 RPM album. Possibly I could have adjusted the playback speed in audacity, but it seemed easier to just start over with the record player set to 33 RPM.
