Pete's Log: Adulting

Entry #2515, (Homeownership, Life in General, Music)
(posted when I was 45 years old.)

Friday I took the car to a local mechanic. During our recent trip to Paris it had developed a rattle. Jamie had taken it to the dealer for service right before our trip and we suspected maybe something didn't get fully tightened.

The mechanic drove it around the block, put it up on the stand, then called me in and pulled on what he told me is the "link stabilizer". It made the exact sound we were hearing. So he replaced it and the rattle is gone. Seems to have just been a coincidence that it started after a service visit.

Our car is now past the 10 year mark. Jamie bought it while I was ski bumming in Colorado. And yet unlike K2, it's never been named or tagged as a person. It's a good car though. Any time we rent a car, I'm always glad to come back to ours. So I hope we can make this one last a while yet. I've been considering perhaps actually trying to learn something about cars. Not sure if that would help or hinder the goal of making this one last.

Saturday I managed to listen to a good chunk of Return of the King. While doing so I stained the new window trim in Jamie's office / the guest bedroom, replaced the bathroom sink faucet handle, replaced a piece of fence (and got to use my circular saw), did some garage cleaning and assembled a second shelf to match the one we got last year.

For the window trim we settled on two coats of Ipswich Pine oil stain. I put the first coat of Polyurethane on this morning. It's looking promising so far. If we like the final results we have plenty more staining to do around the house. I guess that's the case even if we don't like the result, but in the latter case we have more things to figure out first.

The problem we've discovered with trying to match the existing trim around the house is that none of the existing trim exactly matches.

Saturday evening we biked to a local venue to see Emily perform with The New Heartaches. It was a fun evening.
