Pete's Log: Spy Kids 2
Entry #2707, (Movies)(posted when I was 46 years old.)
Jamie, JB and I watched Spy Kids 2 tonight. It wasn't quite as good as Spy Kids, but we enjoyed it.
I particularly enjoyed again how well it was cast. Steve Buscemi made a fantastic eccentric scientist—a role that seems so perfect for him in retrospect that I'm surprised I never considered it as an option for him before. And as a Star Trek fan, seeing Ricardo Montalbán sure sparked joy.
Jamie also observed that anytime the film was building up to be too scary for JB, it pivoted and got goofy. I appreciate what Robert Rodriguez did here. And as I read up on his work, I'm entertained to see that Antonio Banderas, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, and Cheech Marin all starred in both Spy Kids 2 and Rodriguez' Desperado.
