Pete's Log: I Have No Idea What I'm Doing, But At Least I'm Having Fun

Entry #2130, (Homeownership)
(posted when I was 43 years old.)

Today was a yard day. In addition to the usual chicken duties, I also did some power washing (I've been on a kick with that lately). Jamie and I did some garage organizing—just enough to tide us over until we do a proper reorganization, but that involves putting a garage door opener on the alley side door.

And I attempted something completely new.

Trash Can Pad

Bert had made a pad out of concrete pavers to keep the coop on. When we got the coop from him, we got the pavers too. But we have other plans for what will be beneath the coop, so I've been looking for other ways to use the pavers. I put a few of them along the back fence as a temporary measure since the chickens kept digging by the fence. I don't think they're trying to escape, but I didn't want them doing it either way.

Our trash cans sit in the alley. Until today, they were just on a patch of dirt and weeds. I thought maybe a paver pad would look nicer. I've never done anything like this but watched a few videos and mentioned it to Jamie's Dad and asked him if he had a tamper (a tool whose existence I only just learned from the videos). Of course he did. And then he forced my hand by dropping it off at our house. I don't want his tamper to collect dust in our garage. So I bought paver gravel and leveling sand and had at it.

It's not a patio or anything, so I wasn't stressed about it being perfect. And it definitely isn't. But it looks nicer than it did before. So I feel a little accomplished. We'll see how it holds up to rain and time...
