Pete's Log: Unplugging

Entry #2158, (Random Crap)
(posted when I was 44 years old.)

I got a new work laptop a couple months ago and it's been doing this annoying thing where it hard freezes when I unplug it from the docking station. It was happening about one in four times I unplugged it and the only thing I could do at that point was hold down the power button for ten seconds to force it to turn off.

I wondered if there was any chance it was being caused by static, so I tried for a while not touching the laptop while I unplugged it, and that made it worse, leading to the hard freeze almost every time I unplugged it.

Oddly enough, it then took me a few days to try the inverse. But now I've been placing one hand on the laptop while unplugging it with the other hand, and since switching to that technique I've had no freezes.

I don't think I have enough data points yet to claim this as a solution, but it's intriguing. And I figure the best way to tempt the freeze to happen again is to post about it.
