Pete's Log: 12/2

Entry #2163, (Coding, Hacking, & CS stuff, Life in General)
(posted when I was 44 years old.)

Yesterday was Pete's Log's 24th birthday. I'm hoping next year to notice the occasion on the day of.

We've got a few advent calendars to keep us busy. Annie got me a German beer advent calendar and JB a Harry Potter Lego advent calendar. JB's been real into it. Jamie and I are enjoying the beers so far too. Jamie also has an IKEA chocolate calendar, but it's seeming to underwhelm so far.

I'm also giving Advent of Code another go. Last year I only ended up making it three days in.

This year I decided to use AoC to learn Rust. As preparation, I started working through Rustlings but did not get very far before December arrived suddenly and without warning. So I didn't actually get started on AoC until this evening but now I'm all caught up. If I can keep it up through the weekend, I'll be ahead of last year. And that's something at least.

Yesterday I decided to dust/reorganize my desk and in the process managed to destroy the screen on my work laptop. I felt incredibly dumb. Luckily the laptop still works and I can use it via external monitors. But I do feel incredibly dumb. Work was understanding though. Branden suggested using a picture of the broken screen as my desktop background. It's an excellent idea that I think I will have to do.
