Pete's Log: Olaf

Entry #2745, (Chickens)
(posted when I was 46 years old.)

Olaf has been on her own for more than a week now. She seems unbothered but I've been trying to give her extra attention anyway.

This morning she started making a new noise that sounded almost rooster-like. She stopped making it and switched to happy chicken sounds once I brought her some snacks. Jamie suggested maybe I've conditioned her to expect the extra attention.

And then when I left the house to get our Saturday donuts, Olaf did this once she saw me:

Olaf perched atop the fence separating the chicken area from the rest of the yard

We've always known she has ups—she's gotten on top of the coop a couple times—so this had always been a theoretical possibility. But this is the first time I've actually seen her get on top of a fence.
